But it is so weird how in cutscenes Lara is a completely different person, and narratively her mass murder is hardly even mentioned. If Lara was a straight forward psychopath that could be interesting. I’m not saying any of this is an inherently bad thing. Lara kills 40 people in a ten minute span. Even in Temple of doom, which features Indiana Jones at his most violent, he only kills around 40 people, usually in “non violent” ways like shooting someone or cutting a bridge. The sheer scope of it is also astounding. Oh and she frequently uses incendiary weapons which are a literal war crime. This is right before she slathers her self in mud and stabs 20 guys to death, hunting them from the shadows like predator. One of the big “Hero moments” of the series is in Shadow of the Tomb Raider where Lara comes out of the water with flames behind her and stabs a very scared man to death, which looks like a scene out of Friday the 13th. Lara is never presented as anything other than heroic. And these are characters who are noted bad people. Even when killing other “criminals” Franklin shows remorse and wishes he didn’t have to do this. In the main missions you usually don’t kill innocents and when you do, the protagonists show remorse (except Trevor). But in most of the missions you’re killing other “bad” people. You could argue that in GTA you’re a criminal killing innocent people. She kills more people than a GTA protagonist and doesn’t even comment on it. Aside from the first kill she does, she shows no remorse at all. You stabbing them several times is way more violent then the kills in most games where you just shoot themĪnd the presentation of it is just weird. I think part of the reason people bring this up so much is how brutal the kill scenes are. Subreddit Banner edited for r/TombRaider by u/JadedDarkness
